CREATE A CHANGE NOW is a Las Vegas non-profit 501c3 organization that is changing the way families eat by educating and empowering children to make healthier food choices that are nutritious and delicious.
Too many families eat too few of their meals around the family dinner table at home. Too many children make unhealthy food choices that have harmful consequences – including the alarming rise in childhood obesity in America. Statistics show that one in three children in the United States is considered overweight, but locally according to research by healthyamericans.org, Nevada has the 11th highest percentage of overweight and obese children in the nation. Create A Change Now, is helping children plant edible gardens in schools and has enlisted some of the finest chefs in the world – from right here in Las Vegas — to help reverse those related cultural trends.
Through CACN, world-class chefs are fulfilling their commitment to healthy eating by teaching culinary and nutrition skills to children. Learning creative cooking like this is one of the best ways to revive the tradition of the wholesome and delicious home-cooked meal and to inspire children and their families to make common-sense changes in their diets – without sacrificing the flavor.
It is no surprise that when families eat and cook together, they eat healthier and have a greater appreciation for how their food is grown, raised and prepared. Overwhelming evidence also shows that their children do better in school. CACN’s participating chefs strongly encourage families to permanently adopt a new way of eating and to live healthy and happy lives. Under the guidance of CACN, students will grow their own edible gardens and harvest fresh organic produce from it. By getting children to participate in the process of growing vegetables and cooking them, we are providing them with a culinary foundation that lasts a lifetime.
